About

Low Phase is an indie rock trio from Grand Rapids, MI, built on more than a decade of friendship and a shared belief that music is a place to belong. Formed in 2020, Caleb Waldvogel (vocals/guitar), Miles Ferguson (drums), and John Bomer (bass), have evolved from childhood collaborators into one of Michigan’s most intentional and emotionally resonant emerging acts.

What began as three best friends trading riffs in basements has grown into a project defined by careful songwriting and genre-blending instrumentals. Their sound pulls from the raw sincerity of Bright Eyes, the melodic grit of Built to Spill and Modest Mouse, the dynamic punch of Paramore, and the atmospheric edges of shoegaze and indie pop as a whole. As bassist John puts it, “Every second of a Low Phase song is something we thought about.”

At the heart of Low Phase is a rare chemistry built on years of pushing each other creatively. For Caleb, the band is a reminder of who he is and where he comes from:

“Low Phase reminds me of how important community is . Like every time we're doing it,  whether it's the three of us writing or the three of us performing and getting to see the people in our city or see the people of Detroit or wherever we're playing, it's just a very easy way to bond with anybody and everybody. ” For Miles, it’s pure joy:

“It’s the thing that brings me the most happiness. I love having an excuse to get together and craft music. It's always a lot of fun.  And seeing your friends on stage with you and doing the same thing as you at the same time is beautiful.”

Their recordings are fully DIY, tracked in Caleb’s house, engineered by the band, and refined through countless hours of experimentation. DIY gives them time, control, and the freedom to chase the exact sound they hear in their heads. As John explains, “The only people touching the music is us… it’s 100% the sound we want.”

On stage, Low Phase is both intimate and explosive. Their shows are marked by emotional honesty and the unmistakable bond between three people who genuinely love playing together. Wherever they're performing, they bring a sincerity that audiences feel immediately.

With new music on the way (recorded in‑house and shaped by their most ambitious writing yet), Low Phase is stepping into a new chapter. With new music on the horizon and headline dates expanding across the Midwest, the band is poised for their most exciting era yet.
